Like a flower he comes up and withers; like a shadow he flees and does not stay.


My days are like a lengthening shadow, and I wither away like grass.


My heart is stricken and withered like grass, so that I even forget to eat my bread.


A brutish man does not know, nor does a fool understand.


A voice is saying, “Cry out!” So I said, “What shall I cry out?” “All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field.


Now if in this way God clothes the grass—which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow—will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?


For the sun arises with a scorching heat and withers the grass, and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed. So also the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will wither away.
