Now it happened that on that day Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well that they dug, and said to him, “We’ve found water.”


He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.


One gives freely, yet gains even more. Another withholds unjustly, and comes to poverty.


The hand of the diligent will rule, but the lazy will become forced labor.


A lazy person does not roast his game, but a diligent person prizes his possessions.


The slacker’s soul craves, yet has nothing, but the diligent soul will be satisfied.


One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys.


Laziness brings on deep sleep, and an idle soul will starve.


The slacker buries his hand in a bowl and will not even bring it back to his mouth!


Do not love sleep, lest you become poor. Open your eyes, and you will be satisfied with food.


A slacker will not plow in season, so at harvest he looks but finds nothing.


Plans of the diligent surely lead to gain, but all who are hasty come only to loss.


By laziness the rafters sag, and by idle hands the house leaks.


Don’t work for food that spoils, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on Him, God the Father has put the seal of approval.”


Therefore, my dearly loved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord—because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
