So make up your minds not to prepare ahead of time to defend yourselves—


“Brothers and fathers, listen to my defense which I now present to you.”


Agrippa said to Paul, “It is permitted for you to speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand and began his defense.


As Paul was thus making his defense, Festus says with a loud voice, “You’re crazy, Paul! Your great learning is driving you insane!”


But to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—wrath and fury.


But what does it matter? Only that in every way, whether in dishonesty or in truth, Messiah is being proclaimed—and in this I rejoice! Yes, and I will keep rejoicing,


It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart—for you all are partakers of grace with me, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the Good News.


Do nothing out of selfishness or conceit, but with humility consider others as more important than yourselves,


For this I was appointed a herald and an emissary (I am telling the truth; I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faithfulness and truth.


For this I suffer hardship as a criminal, even to the point of chains—though the word of God is not chained.


At my first defense, no one stood by me; instead, they all deserted me—may it not be counted against them!
