Lamentations 5:18
18 Tagairtí Cros

He burned down the House of Adonai, the royal palace and all the houses of Jerusalem—every notable building he burned with fire.

But we prayed to our God and stationed a guard against them day and night.

But those who seek my soul to destroy it will go down to the depths of the earth.

Your holy cities became a wilderness, Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

My mountain in the country, your wealth and all your treasures I will give away as plunder, along with your high places for sin within all your borders.

Why have you prophesied in the Name of Adonai, saying, ‘This House will be like Shiloh, and this city will be an uninhabited ruin?’” Then all the people gathered against Jeremiah in the House of Adonai.

thus says Adonai-Tzva’ot, the God of Israel: “You have seen all the calamity that I brought on Jerusalem and on all the cities of Judah. Behold, today they are a ruin, and no one lives in them,

“Therefore My fury and Mine anger was poured out and blazed in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. So they are waste and a ruin, as it is today.

Then he burned the House of Adonai, the king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem. He burned every large house with fire.

“I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a lair for jackals. I will make the cities of Judah a wasteland without inhabitant.

Who is the one wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of Adonai spoken that he may explain it? Why is the land ruined, laid waste like a wilderness, so that no one passes through?”

O Israel, your prophets have been like jackals among ruins.

‘So now, our God, listen to the prayers and petitions of Your servant, and cause Your face to shine upon Your devastated Sanctuary, for the sake of my Lord.

Therefore, because of you Zion will become a plowed field. Yes, Jerusalem will become a heap of ruins, and the Temple Mount will become a high place in a forest.
