Now it was after these things that God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham.” “Hineni,” he said.


Yet He knows the way that I take; if He tested me, I would come out as gold.


No king is saved by his great army, no warrior is delivered by great strength.


For You have tested us, O God— You have purified us, as silver is refined.


Adonai judges the peoples. Vindicate me, Adonai, according to my righteousness and integrity in me.


So he brought the troops down to the water, and Adonai said to Gideon, “You are to set apart everyone who laps the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, and everyone who bows down on his knees to drink.”


Then Jonathan said to the young man carrying his armor, “Come, let’s cross over to the garrison of these uncircumcised ones. Perhaps Adonai will work for us, for nothing restrains Adonai from delivering whether by many or by few.”


But Adonai said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or his stature, because I have already refused him. For He does not see a man as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but Adonai looks into the heart.”
