I broke the jaws of the unjust, and snatched the prey out of his teeth.


They caused the cry of the poor to come before Him, so that He hears the cry of the afflicted.


so that godless men should not rule, nor lay snares for people.


He delivers the afflicted by his affliction and opens their ear in oppression.


He does not keep the wicked alive, but gives justice to the afflicted.


And from the wicked their light is withheld, and the upraised arm is broken.


The lion may roar and the cub growl, but the teeth of young lions are broken.


The mighty lion perishes for lack of prey and the lioness’ cubs are scattered.


You will be hidden from the lash of the tongue, and not fear when violence comes.


You saw—for You see trouble and grief, to take it in Your hand. The victim puts his trust in You— You are the helper of the orphan.


You hear, Adonai, the desire of the meek. You encourage them and incline Your ear.


But He lifts the needy high above affliction, and makes their families like a flock.


For He stands at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those who condemn his soul.


May a slanderer not endure in the land. May calamity hunt down a violent man.


All my bones will say: “Adonai, who is like You, rescuing the poor from one too strong for him, the poor and needy from one who robs him?”


May he vindicate the poor of the people, save the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor.


Now King Nebuchadrezzar of Babylon gave orders about Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying:
