He captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.


Therefore He brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the House of their Temple. He had no pity on young man or virgin, elderly or infirm—He gave them all into his hand.


Yet I had planted you as a choice vine from completely faithful seed. How then did you become to Me a wandering wild vine?


I will soon send for and bring all the families of the north”—it is a declaration of Adonai—“and I will send for King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations round about, and I will utterly destroy them, and make them a horror, and a hissing, an enduring desolation.


For I am with you,” declares Adonai, “to save you, for I will make a full end of all the nations where I scatter you. but I will not make a full end of you. For I will discipline you justly, but will not leave you unpunished.”


Then the Chaldeans burned the king’s palace and the houses of the people with fire, and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.


For thus says Adonai, “The whole land will be wasteland, yet I will not totally destroy it.


Fear not, Jacob My servant” —it is a declaration of Adonai— “for I am with you. I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you, but I will not make a full end of you. I will discipline you with justice, but will not utterly destroy you.”


For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly unfaithful to Me.” It is a declaration of Adonai.


“Yet even in those days,” declares Adonai, “I will not completely destroy you.


For such, should I not punish them?” It is a declaration of Adonai. “On such a nation as this should I not avenge Myself?


But I will let a few of them escape the sword, the famine and the pestilence, so they may tell about all their detestable practices among the nations where they go. And they will know that I am Adonai.”


Or if I bring a sword on that land and say: ‘Let the sword go through the land,’ so that I cut off man and beast from it;


Then He said: “Name him Lo-ammi, for you are not My people and I am not yours.”


Behold, the eyes of my Lord Adonai are on the sinful kingdom. So I will utterly destroy it from the face of the earth. Nevertheless, I will not annihilate the house of Jacob.” It is a declaration of Adonai.


Now the king became furious! Sending his troops, he destroyed those murderers and set fire to their city.
