Jacob’s sons had already come in from the field when they heard, and the men were deeply grieved and furious, because he had committed a vile deed in Israel by lying with Jacob’s daughter, which ought never to be done.


They also took their livestock and their possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan and they came to Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him.


Now these are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Jacob’s firstborn, Reuben,


Then Israel came into Egypt, Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.


For thus says Adonai Elohim: “At first My people went down to Egypt to reside there, then the Assyrian oppressed them for nothing.


Our forefathers went down to Egypt, so we lived there for a very long time. The Egyptians mistreated us, and our fathers.


You are never to seek their shalom or welfare all your days.
