Then Abraham took Ishmael his son and all of his house-born slaves and all his purchased slaves—every male among the men of Abraham’s house—and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on this very same day, just as God had spoken with him.


Now Ephron was sitting in the midst of the sons of Heth. And Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the ears of the sons of Heth, all those who enter the gate of his city, saying,


to Abraham as a purchased possession in the eyes of the sons of Heth, before all those who enter the gate of his city.


Their livestock and their possessions: won’t they be ours? Only let us consent to them so that they’ll live with us.”
