Then Jacob said when he saw them, “This is God’s camp,” and he named that place Mahanaim.


Then Jacob sent messengers before him to his brother Esau, to the land of Seir, the field of Edom.


He continued, “My lord knows that the children are tender, and that the flocks and the cattle in my care are nursing. So if they were pushed hard just one day, all the flocks would die.


“Now behold, the sons of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir—whose land You did not allow Israel to invade when they came from the land of Egypt, instead they turned aside from them and did not destroy them—


Like a shepherd, He tends His flock. He gathers the lambs in His arms carries them in his bosom, and gently guides nursing ewes.


Thus says Adonai Elohim: “Because Moab and Seir say, ‘See, the house of Judah is like all the other nations!’


With many such parables He used to tell them the word, as much as they were able to hear.


Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of the powerless and not just please ourselves.


I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready. Indeed, even now you are not yet ready,


“Then we turned and journeyed into the wilderness by the way to the Sea of Reeds, just as Adonai told me. We went around the hill country of Seir for many days.


Adonai, when You came out from Seir, when You marched from Edom’s field, the earth trembled, the heavens also dropped, yes, the clouds dropped water.
