When the sun set and it became dark, behold, there was a smoking oven and a fiery torch that passed between these pieces.


Then he said, “Your sound—I heard it in the garden and I was afraid. Because I am naked, I hid myself.”


“I relieved his shoulder of the burden, his hands were set free from the basket.


“Am I God only when near” —it is a declaration of Adonai— “and not God when far off?


This is just what you asked of Adonai your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly when saying, ‘I cannot continue to hear the voice of Adonai my God or see this great fire any more, or I will die.’


From the heavens He made you hear His voice to instruct you, and on earth He caused you to see His great fire—you heard His words from the midst of the fire.


For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?


“Adonai heard the tone of your words when you spoke to me, and Adonai said to me, ‘I have heard the tone of the words that this people has spoken to you—they have done well in all they have spoken.


Go say to them, “Return to your tents.”
