Behold, for this our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons, daughters and wives are in captivity.


But the eyes of the wicked will fail, and escape will elude them; their only hope is their dying breath.”


If anyone denounces his friends for profit the eyes of his children will fail.


then let me sow and another eat, and let my crops be uprooted.


My eyes fail, longing for Your salvation and for Your righteous word.


My eyes are worn out longing for Your promise, saying, “When will You comfort me?”


I have sunk in deep mud, and there is no footing, I have come into deep waters, and a flood sweeps over me.


Like a swallow or a crane, I whisper, I moan like a dove. My eyes are weary, looking upward. Adonai, I am oppressed, be my security!


“Adonai is righteous, for I have rebelled against His word. Hear now, all peoples— look at my suffering! My maidens and my young men have gone into captivity.


My eyes are filled with tears. My stomach is in torment. My heart is poured out on the ground over the destruction of the daughter of my people— as young children and infants languish in the city squares.


Even now our eyes waste away looking in vain for our help. From our towers we watched for a nation that could not save us.


Because of this our heart is faint, for these things our eyes are dim,


“You, son of man, on the day when I take from them their stronghold, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, the longing of their soul, as well as their sons and their daughters—


So I will send you into exile, beyond Damascus.” Adonai has spoken, Elohei-Tzva’ot is His Name.


Oy to them who scheme wickedness, who work out evil upon their beds! In the light of the morning, they do it, for the power is in their hands.


Writhe and give birth, Daughter of Zion, like a woman in labor. For now you will go forth from a city. You will dwell in the field, and you will come as far as Babylon. There you will be rescued. There will Adonai redeem you from the hand of your enemies.


Woe to you, O Moab! You have been destroyed, people of Chemosh! He has given up his sons as refugees and his daughters as captives to Sihon, king of the Amorites.


“Cursed will be the fruit of your womb, the produce of your soil, the increase of your herd and the young of your flock.


Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not eat of it. Your donkey will be stolen in front of you, and it will not be returned to you. Your sheep will be given to your enemies, and you will have no one to save you.


Sons and daughters you will father—but they will not be yours, for they will go into captivity.


Among these nations you will find no rest, and there will be no rest for the sole of your foot. But there Adonai will give you a trembling heart and failing eyes, and a despairing spirit.
