When a mocker is punished, the naïve become wise. When a wise person is instructed, he gains knowledge.


You are to stone him with stones to death because he tried to entice you away from Adonai your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.


Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and never again will they do such an evil thing as this in your midst.


Then all the people will hear and be afraid, and not act presumptuously again.


The hand of the witnesses is to be first to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So you are to purge the evil from your midst.


Then all the men of his city are to stone him with stones to death. So you will purge the evil from your midst—and all Israel will hear and be afraid.


Correct those who continue sinning in the presence of everyone, so that the rest also may fear.
