Then he said, “Fill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.” Then he said, “A second time!” and they did it a second time. Then he said, “A third time!” and they did it a third time.


Then you will gain favor and a good name in the eyes of God and man.


All their works they do to be noticed by men. They make their tefillin wide and their tzitziyot long.


In the same way, let your light shine before men so they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”


“Beware of practicing your righteousness before others to be seen by them; otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.


so that your tzadakah may be in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, shall reward you.


Repay no one evil for evil; give thought to what is good in the eyes of all people.


For the one who serves Messiah in this manner is pleasing to God and approved by men.


For we are not like many, peddling the word of God. Rather, in Messiah we speak in the sight of God with sincerity, as persons sent from God.


We are taking this precaution, so that no one will blame us in regard to the way we administer this generous gift.


Also with them we are sending our brother whom we have tested many times and found to be diligent in many things, but now even more diligent because of his great confidence in you.


Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any virtue and if there is anything worthy of praise—dwell on these things.


Furthermore, he must have a good reputation with those outside, so that he will not fall into disgrace and the devil’s trap.


Therefore, I want the younger widows to get married, have children, manage a household, and give no opportunity to the enemy for slander.


Keep your conduct honorable among the Gentiles. Then while they speak against you as evildoers, they may—from noticing your good deeds—glorify God in the day of visitation.
