‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance. We wailed, but you did not mourn.’


They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to each other, saying, ‘We played the flute for you, and you didn’t dance. We sang a dirge, and you didn’t weep.’


If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels but have not love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.


But now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you—unless I speak to you by way of revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching?


For if the trumpet makes an unclear sound, who will prepare himself for battle?


After that, you will arrive at the hill of God, where the garrison of the Philistines is. It will come about, as soon as you enter the town, that you will meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place, preceded by a harp, a tambourine and a flute, and they will be prophesying.
