Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people were gathered together in the courtyard of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,


They clothed him with a purple robe, twisted together a crown of thorns, and put it on him.


Then the Jews led Jesus away from Caiaphas to the governor's headquarters. It was now early in the morning. They themselves did not go into the governor's headquarters so that they would not be defiled, but could eat the Passover.


Then Pilate went into his headquarters again, called Jesus over, and said to him, “Are yoʋ the king of the Jews?”


The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns, put it on his head, and then clothed him with a purple garment.


He went back into his headquarters and said to Jesus, “Where are yoʋ from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.


Now there was a man in Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian cohort.
