Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders, you will certainly not believe.”


But they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.


And all who were sitting in the Sanhedrin stared at Stephen intently and saw that his face was like the face of an angel.


Therefore, brothers, look for seven men among you who have a good reputation and are full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we can appoint for this need.


This proposal pleased the whole multitude, so they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, together with Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, an Antiochean convert to Judaism.


But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.


With one accord the crowds paid close attention to what Philip said as they listened to him and saw the signs he was performing.


It was he who appointed some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers,


For those who have served well as deacons obtain a good standing for themselves along with great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
