“I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.


But Jesus answered him, “Permit it for now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John permitted him.


They said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us as he spoke to us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?”


In those days Peter stood up among the disciples (a crowd of about one hundred twenty people who were gathered together). He said,


Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking about the mighty acts of God in our own tongues.”


Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.


Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.


to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.


And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is placed among our members as a world of unrighteousness, staining the entire body, setting the course of life on fire, and itself being set on fire by hell.


And I will give authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for one thousand two hundred sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”


Then I saw an angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth, to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people.
