We labor, working with our own hands. When we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure;


In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should earn their living by the gospel.


But I have not used any of these rights, and I am not writing this so that such may be done in my case. For I would rather die than have anyone deprive me of my reason for boasting.


What then is my reward? That when I preach, I may present the gospel of Christ free of charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel.


Did I commit a sin by humbling myself so that you might be exalted, because I preached the gospel of God to you free of charge?


When I was with you and in need, I did not burden anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied what I needed. I kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and I will continue to do so.


In what way were you treated as inferior to the rest of the churches, except that I myself did not burden you? Forgive me this injustice!


For you remember, brothers, our labor and hardship. Working night and day so as not to be a burden on any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.


We urge you to aspire to lead a quiet life, to attend to your own affairs, and to work with your own hands, just as we commanded you,
