Although you once did not know him, you love him; although you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with an unspeakable and glorious joy,


If we say that we have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.


If we say that we do not have sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.


But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.


Whoever says, “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him.


Whoever says he is in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.


If anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need but closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?


No one has ever seen God. If we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is perfected in us.
