They turn the needy out of the way: The poor of the earth hide themselves together.


There are that pluck the fatherless from the breast, And take a pledge of the poor:


Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? Was not my soul grieved for the needy?


Or have eaten my morsel alone, And the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;


(Nay, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, And I have been her guide from my mother's womb;)


If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, Because I saw my help in the gate:


So that they caused the cry of the poor to come unto him, And he heard the cry of the afflicted.


A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, Is God in his holy habitation.


For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; And the poor, that hath no helper.


I am counted with them that go down into the pit; I am as a man that hath no help:


Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, He also shall cry, but shall not be heard.


Open thy mouth for the dumb, In the cause of all such as are left desolate.


He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Was not this to know me? saith the LORD.


He doth execute the judgement of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.


Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
