“Saul and Jonathan, beloved and lovely! In life and in death they were not divided; they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.


How sweet are thy words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!


Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his glory is above earth and heaven.


More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.


You are the fairest of the sons of men; grace is poured upon your lips; therefore God has blessed you for ever.


For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord,


Behold, you are beautiful, my beloved, truly lovely. Our couch is green;

and the scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness”; and he was called the friend of God.


Unfaithful creatures! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
