Then he said, “Your name shall no more be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.”


And Asa cried to the Lord his God, “O Lord, there is none like thee to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on thee, and in thy name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.”


Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up thy hand; forget not the afflicted.


to wreak vengeance on the nations and chastisement on the peoples,


Arise, O Lord! Deliver me, O my God! For thou dost smite all my enemies on the cheek, thou dost break the teeth of the wicked.


Rouse thyself! Why sleepest thou, O Lord? Awake! Do not cast us off for ever!


Rise up, come to our help! Deliver us for the sake of thy steadfast love!


Arise, O Lord, in thy anger, lift thyself up against the fury of my enemies; awake, O my God; thou hast appointed a judgment.


Pour out thy anger on the nations that do not know thee, and on the kingdoms that do not call on thy name!

Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord; awake, as in days of old, the generations of long ago. Was it not thou that didst cut Rahab in pieces, that didst pierce the dragon?


Pour out thy wrath upon the nations that know thee not, and upon the peoples that call not on thy name; for they have devoured Jacob; they have devoured him and consumed him, and have laid waste his habitation.


Let the nations bestir themselves, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat; for there I will sit to judge all the nations round about.


And in anger and wrath I will execute vengeance upon the nations that did not obey.

From his mouth issues a sharp sword with which to smite the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron; he will tread the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.


“He will guard the feet of his faithful ones; but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness; for not by might shall a man prevail.
