And it was told David, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said, “O Lord, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.”


The wicked go astray from the womb, they err from their birth, speaking lies.


Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city.


And the Lord said to him, “Go through the city, through Jerusalem, and put a mark upon the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it.”


For like an oven their hearts burn with intrigue; all night their anger smolders; in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.


Why dost thou make me see wrongs and look upon trouble? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise.
