He said, “I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts; for the people of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thy altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”


May all who hate Zion be put to shame and turned backward!


Let them be put to shame and confusion altogether who rejoice at my calamity! Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me!


Those who seek my life lay their snares, those who seek my hurt speak of ruin, and meditate treachery all the day long.


And my tongue will talk of thy righteous help all the day long, for they have been put to shame and disgraced who sought to do me hurt.


Let them know that thou alone, whose name is the Lord, art the Most High over all the earth.


Because you have raged against me and your arrogance has come to my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and I will turn you back on the way by which you came.’


Why have I seen it? They are dismayed and have turned backward. Their warriors are beaten down, and have fled in haste; they look not back— terror on every side! says the Lord.


You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, putting to death persons who should not die and keeping alive persons who should not live, by your lies to my people, who listen to lies.


When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death;


When he said to them, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.


See therefore, and take note of all the lurking places where he hides, and come back to me with sure information. Then I will go with you; and if he is in the land, I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.”
