The sons of Jacob answered Shechem and his father Hamor deceitfully, because he had defiled their sister Dinah.


Then Absalom said, “If not, pray let my brother Amnon go with us.” And the king said to him, “Why should he go with you?”


But Absalom pressed him until he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.


And Joab said to Amasa, “Is it well with you, my brother?” And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.


Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come and let us meet together in one of the villages in the plain of Ono.” But they intended to do me harm.


May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts,


Take me not off with the wicked, with those who are workers of evil, who speak peace with their neighbors, while mischief is in their hearts.


And when one comes to see me, he utters empty words, while his heart gathers mischief; when he goes out, he tells it abroad.


He who conceals hatred has lying lips, and he who utters slander is a fool.


A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight.


He who speaks the truth gives honest evidence, but a false witness utters deceit.


Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but those who plan good have joy.


The thoughts of the righteous are just; the counsels of the wicked are treacherous.


The wisdom of a prudent man is to discern his way, but the folly of fools is deceiving.


for he is like one who is inwardly reckoning. “Eat and drink!” he says to you; but his heart is not with you.
