Jonadab said to him, “Lie down on your bed, and pretend to be ill; and when your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Let my sister Tamar come and give me bread to eat, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it from her hand.’ ”


And the young men who had grown up with him said to him, “Thus shall you speak to the people who said to you, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but do you lighten it for us’; thus shall you say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father's loins.


Leave the presence of a fool, for there you do not meet words of knowledge.


He who does violence to his father and chases away his mother is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.


A worthless witness mocks at justice, and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.


So do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your dreamers, your soothsayers, or your sorcerers, who are saying to you, ‘You shall not serve the king of Babylon.’


Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.


Jesus said to them, “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”


“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.


And he said to them, “Take heed what you hear; the measure you give will be the measure you get, and still more will be given you.


A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”


so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the cunning of men, by their craftiness in deceitful wiles.


Have nothing to do with godless and silly myths. Train yourself in godliness;


Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world.


If any one comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into the house or give him any greeting;


“ ‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear evil men but have tested those who call themselves apostles but are not, and found them to be false;
