Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, chief of the thirty, and he said, “We are yours, O David; and with you, O son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you, and peace to your helpers! For your God helps you.” Then David received them, and made them officers of his troops.


Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took some of the spirit that was upon him and put it upon the seventy elders; and when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did so no more.


Then the Ammonites were called to arms, and they encamped in Gilead; and the people of Israel came together, and they encamped at Mizpah.


So Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and leader over them; and Jephthah spoke all his words before the Lord at Mizpah.


But the king of the Ammonites did not heed the message of Jephthah which he sent to him.


And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord, and said, “If thou wilt give the Ammonites into my hand,


And the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshta-ol.
