David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.


but if he says, ‘I have no pleasure in you,’ behold, here I am, let him do to me what seems good to him.”


But David's heart smote him after he had numbered the people. And David said to the Lord, “I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, O Lord, I pray thee, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.”


Then David said to Gad, “I am in great distress; let us fall into the hand of the Lord, for his mercy is great; but let me not fall into the hand of man.”


and he sings before men, and says: ‘I sinned, and perverted what was right, and it was not requited to me.


He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.


O Lord, in distress they sought thee, they poured out a prayer when thy chastening was upon them.


Then I said, ‘I am cast out from thy presence; how shall I again look upon thy holy temple?’


Who knows, God may yet repent and turn from his fierce anger, so that we perish not?”


And now, behold, we are in your hand: do as it seems good and right in your sight to do to us.”


And they cried to the Lord, and said, ‘We have sinned, because we have forsaken the Lord, and have served the Baals and the Ashtaroth; but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.’


So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, “It is the Lord; let him do what seems good to him.”


So they gathered at Mizpah, and drew water and poured it out before the Lord, and fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the people of Israel at Mizpah.
