Azariah the son of Nathan was over the officers; Zabud the son of Nathan was priest and king's friend;


For he held fast to the Lord; he did not depart from following him, but kept the commandments which the Lord commanded Moses.


Didst thou not, O our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and give it for ever to the descendants of Abraham thy friend?


And Moses and Aaron did so; they did as the Lord commanded them.


There are friends who pretend to be friends, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.


I come to my garden, my sister, my bride, I gather my myrrh with my spice, I eat my honeycomb with my honey, I drink my wine with my milk. Eat, O friends, and drink: drink deeply, O lovers!


But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend;


and they entered and took possession of it. But they did not obey thy voice or walk in thy law; they did nothing of all thou didst command them to do. Therefore thou hast made all this evil come upon them.


And I did as I was commanded. I brought out my baggage by day, as baggage for exile, and in the evening I dug through the wall with my own hands; I went forth in the dark, carrying my outfit upon my shoulder in their sight.


For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother, and sister, and mother.”


“I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.


If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.


“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.


He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me; and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”


You heard me say to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.


His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”


and the scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness”; and he was called the friend of God.


For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.


So she went down to the threshing floor and did just as her mother-in-law had told her.
