Many of the Jews therefore, who had come with Mary and had seen what he did, believed in him;


If we let him go on thus, every one will believe in him, and the Romans will come and destroy both our holy place and our nation.”


So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus also to death,


The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign.


Nevertheless many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:


Yet many of the people believed in him; they said, “When the Christ appears, will he do more signs than this man has done?”


But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted what was spoken by Paul, and reviled him.
