the guests in my house have forgotten me; my maidservants count me as a stranger; I have become an alien in their eyes.


Why do you, like God, pursue me? Why are you not satisfied with my flesh?


You have given no water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.


I was a father to the poor, and I searched out the cause of him whom I did not know.


Did not I weep for him whose day was hard? Was not my soul grieved for the poor?


(the sojourner has not lodged in the street; I have opened my doors to the wayfarer);


When evildoers assail me, uttering slanders against me, my adversaries and foes, they shall stumble and fall.


Let them not say to themselves, “Aha, we have our heart's desire!” Let them not say, “We have swallowed him up.”


but these men lie in wait for their own blood, they set an ambush for their own lives.


if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.


Lo, this day your eyes have seen how the Lord gave you today into my hand in the cave; and some bade me kill you, but I spared you. I said, ‘I will not put forth my hand against my lord; for he is the Lord's anointed.’
