And Haman recounted to them the splendor of his riches, the number of his sons, all the promotions with which the king had honored him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and the servants of the king.


Hast thou not put a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.


He had seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and very many servants; so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east.


if you lay gold in the dust, and gold of Ophir among the stones of the torrent bed,


Put no confidence in extortion, set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.


When your eyes light upon it, it is gone; for suddenly it takes to itself wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.


And Hezekiah welcomed them; and he showed them his treasure house, the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious oil, his whole armory, all that was found in his storehouses. There was nothing in his house or in all his realm that Hezekiah did not show them.


Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;


by your great wisdom in trade you have increased your wealth, and your heart has become proud in your wealth—


and the king said, “Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty?”


Ephraim has said, “Ah, but I am rich, I have gained wealth for myself”; but all his riches can never offset the guilt he has incurred.


Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his seine; for by them he lives in luxury, and his food is rich.


And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.’


“There was a rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day.


But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.


Now when these signs meet you, do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you.
