Joab said, “I will not waste time like this with you.” And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them into the heart of Absalom, while he was still alive in the oak.


Terrifying sounds are in his ears; in prosperity the destroyer will come upon him.


his archers surround me. He slashes open my kidneys, and does not spare; he pours out my gall on the ground.


Terrors frighten him on every side, and chase him at his heels.


He is torn from the tent in which he trusted, and is brought to the king of terrors.


Terrors overtake him like a flood; in the night a whirlwind carries him off.


For the arrows of the Almighty are in me; my spirit drinks their poison; the terrors of God are arrayed against me.


If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and strung his bow;


How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away utterly by terrors!


Afflicted and close to death from my youth up, I suffer thy terrors; I am helpless.


Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men; but what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience.


if I whet my glittering sword, and my hand takes hold on judgment, I will take vengeance on my adversaries, and will requite those who hate me.
