So Lot went out and said to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his daughters, “Up, get out of this place; for the Lord is about to destroy the city.” But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be jesting.


He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God; he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the Lord, the God of Israel.


Thou dost rebuke the insolent, accursed ones, who wander from thy commandments;


May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts,


Too long our soul has been sated with the scorn of those who are at ease, the contempt of the proud.


But Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should heed his voice and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, and moreover I will not let Israel go.”


You are still exalting yourself against my people, and will not let them go.


Every one who is arrogant is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished.


lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, “Who is the Lord?” or lest I be poor, and steal, and profane the name of my God.


haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,


The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.


And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.’ ”


The Lord has sent a word against Jacob, and it will light upon Israel;


Hear and give ear; be not proud, for the Lord has spoken.


Then they said, “Come, let us make plots against Jeremiah, for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not heed any of his words.”


they went to Gedaliah at Mizpah—Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, Johanan the son of Kareah, Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, Jezaniah the son of the Ma-acathite, they and their men.

Then all the commanders of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah and Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least to the greatest, came near


that you have gone astray at the cost of your lives. For you sent me to the Lord your God, saying, ‘Pray for us to the Lord our God, and whatever the Lord our God says declare to us and we will do it.’


Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the Lord be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act according to all the word with which the Lord your God sends you to us.


When Jeremiah finished speaking to all the people all these words of the Lord their God, with which the Lord their God had sent him to them,


“As for the word which you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to you.


But he gives more grace; therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”


Likewise you that are younger be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
