Thorns shall grow over its strongholds, nettles and thistles in its fortresses. It shall be the haunt of jackals, an abode for ostriches.


Then the Lord said to me, “Out of the north evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.


For lo, I am calling all the tribes of the kingdoms of the north, says the Lord; and they shall come and every one shall set his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, against all its walls round about, and against all the cities of Judah.


The lions have roared against him, they have roared loudly. They have made his land a waste; his cities are in ruins, without inhabitant.


behold, I will send for all the tribes of the north, says the Lord, and for Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants, and against all these nations round about; I will utterly destroy them, and make them a horror, a hissing, and an everlasting reproach.


For a voice declares from Dan and proclaims evil from Mount Ephraim.


Raise a standard toward Zion, flee for safety, stay not, for I bring evil from the north, and great destruction.


Hazor shall become a haunt of jackals, an everlasting waste; no man shall dwell there, no man shall sojourn in her.”


Behold, I am bringing upon you a nation from afar, O house of Israel, says the Lord. It is an enduring nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you understand what they say.


Flee for safety, O people of Benjamin, from the midst of Jerusalem! Blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and raise a signal on Beth-haccherem; for evil looms out of the north, and great destruction.


Thus says the Lord: “Behold, a people is coming from the north country, a great nation is stirring from the farthest parts of the earth.


I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a lair of jackals; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.”


The roads to Zion mourn, for none come to the appointed feasts; all her gates are desolate, her priests groan; her maidens have been dragged away, and she herself suffers bitterly.


and say of the people of the land, Thus says the Lord God concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem in the land of Israel: They shall eat their bread with fearfulness, and drink water in dismay, because their land will be stripped of all it contains, on account of the violence of all those who dwell in it.


but I have hated Esau; I have laid waste his hill country and left his heritage to jackals of the desert.”
