Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God.


“But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!


because your heart was penitent and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and its inhabitants, and you have humbled yourself before me, and have rent your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, says the Lord.


For God abases the proud, but he saves the lowly.


This would be my consolation; I would even exult in pain unsparing; for I have not denied the words of the Holy One.


He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant for ever. Holy and terrible is his name!


Our God is in the heavens; he does whatever he pleases.


To thee I lift up my eyes, O thou who art enthroned in the heavens!


For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly; but the haughty he knows from afar.


Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou dost preserve my life; thou dost stretch out thy hand against the wrath of my enemies, and thy right hand delivers me.


He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.


The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit.


Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivers him out of them all.


The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.


then wilt thou delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on thy altar.


Let them know that thou alone, whose name is the Lord, art the Most High over all the earth.


Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting thou art God.


thy throne is established from of old; thou art from everlasting.


For thou, O Lord, art most high over all the earth; thou art exalted far above all gods.


Let them praise thy great and terrible name! Holy is he!


“Who is like thee, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like thee, majestic in holiness, terrible in glorious deeds, doing wonders?


“Thou hast led in thy steadfast love the people whom thou hast redeemed, thou hast guided them by thy strength to thy holy abode.

Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.


And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting, because the cloud abode upon it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.


It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud.


Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth.


For thus the Lord said to me: “I will quietly look from my dwelling like clear heat in sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”


The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness;


Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary, his understanding is unsearchable.

The thing that the king asks is difficult, and none can show it to the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.”


The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, the decision by the word of the holy ones, to the end that the living may know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men, and gives it to whom he will, and sets over it the lowliest of men.’


At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored him who lives for ever; for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom endures from generation to generation;

He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?


Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord; for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.


Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on an ass, on a colt the foal of an ass.


Pray then like this: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.


for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.

who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.


so you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.


But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus,


The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. And he thrust out the enemy before you, and said, Destroy.


To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.


who alone has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.


how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.


But he gives more grace; therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”


Likewise you that are younger be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
