Let their own eyes see their destruction, and let them drink of the wrath of the Almighty.


On the wicked he will rain coals of fire and brimstone; a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.


Thou hast made thy people suffer hard things; thou hast given us wine to drink that made us reel.


That thy beloved may be delivered, give victory by thy right hand and answer us!


All the horns of the wicked he will cut off, but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.


For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, with foaming wine, well mixed; and he will pour a draught from it, and all the wicked of the earth shall drain it down to the dregs.


Stupefy yourselves and be in a stupor, blind yourselves and be blind! Be drunk, but not with wine; stagger, but not with strong drink!


Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord's hand double for all her sins.


Therefore hear this, you who are afflicted, who are drunk, but not with wine:


Thus says your Lord, the Lord, your God who pleads the cause of his people: “Behold, I have taken from your hand the cup of staggering; the bowl of my wrath you shall drink no more;

Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will fill with drunkenness all the inhabitants of this land: the kings who sit on David's throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.


Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, its kings and princes, to make them a desolation and a waste, a hissing and a curse, as at this day;


“Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink, be drunk and vomit, fall and rise no more, because of the sword which I am sending among you.’


Therefore my wrath and my anger were poured forth and kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they became a waste and a desolation, as at this day.


“Lo, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of reeling to all the peoples round about; it will be against Judah also in the siege against Jerusalem.


But Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.”


Come to your right mind, and sin no more. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.


Therefore it is said, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.”


The Lord will smite you with madness and blindness and confusion of mind;


so that you shall be driven mad by the sight which your eyes shall see.
