Then his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, “Let a gallows fifty cubits high be made, and in the morning tell the king to have Mordecai hanged upon it; then go merrily with the king to the dinner.” This counsel pleased Haman, and he had the gallows made.


And the king said, “Hang him on that.” So they hanged Haman on the gallows which he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the anger of the king abated.


Can you, like him, spread out the skies, hard as a molten mirror?


who alone stretched out the heavens, and trampled the waves of the sea;


who coverest thyself with light as with a garment, who hast stretched out the heavens like a tent,


But they soon forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel.


Surely the wrath of men shall praise thee; the residue of wrath thou wilt gird upon thee.

I made the earth, and created man upon it; it was my hands that stretched out the heavens, and I commanded all their host.


For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it a chaos, he formed it to be inhabited!): “I am the Lord, and there is no other.


My hand laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand forth together.


I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh, and they shall be drunk with their own blood as with wine. Then all flesh shall know that I am the Lord your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”


In righteousness you shall be established; you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near you.


Whom did you dread and fear, so that you lied, and did not remember me, did not give me a thought? Have I not held my peace, even for a long time, and so you do not fear me?


and say to him, ‘Take heed, be quiet, do not fear, and do not let your heart be faint because of these two smoldering stumps of firebrands, at the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria and the son of Remaliah.


For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, thou hast broken as on the day of Midian.


Can a maiden forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet my people have forgotten me days without number.


King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “I am afraid of the Jews who have deserted to the Chaldeans, lest I be handed over to them and they abuse me.”


because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.


“It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.

Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He ordered the furnace heated seven times more than it was wont to be heated.


Immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he did not give God the glory; and he was eaten by worms and died.


Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?


“O death, where is thy victory? O death, where is thy sting?”


You were unmindful of the Rock that begot you, and you forgot the God who gave you birth.


then take heed lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.


“Take heed lest you forget the Lord your God, by not keeping his commandments and his ordinances and his statutes, which I command you this day:


If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return.


And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had worked the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulphur.


And they marched up over the broad earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city; but fire came down from heaven and consumed them,
