And when the king heard concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, “Behold, he has set out to fight against you,” he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,


Keep me as the apple of the eye; hide me in the shadow of thy wings,


How precious is thy steadfast love, O God! The children of men take refuge in the shadow of thy wings.


Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in thee my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of thy wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by.


Let me dwell in thy tent for ever! Oh to be safe under the shelter of thy wings! Selah


for thou hast been my help, and in the shadow of thy wings I sing for joy.


he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.


Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord!


Now the king heard concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, “He has set out to fight against you.” And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,


Thus says the Lord: “The wealth of Egypt and the merchandise of Ethiopia, and the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over to you and be yours, they shall follow you; they shall come over in chains and bow down to you. They will make supplication to you, saying: ‘God is with you only, and there is no other, no god besides him.’ ”


“On that day swift messengers shall go forth from me to terrify the unsuspecting Ethiopians; and anguish shall come upon them on the day of Egypt's doom; for, lo, it comes!


You also, O Ethiopians, shall be slain by my sword.


From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, the daughter of my dispersed ones, shall bring my offering.


“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not!


The Lord recompense you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!”
