Isaiah 10:12 - Revised Standard Version

12 When the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem he will punish the arrogant boasting of the king of Assyria and his haughty pride.

for out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the Lord will do this.


For thou dost deliver a humble people; but the haughty eyes thou dost bring down.


You will destroy their offspring from the earth, and their children from among the sons of men.


Surely the wrath of men shall praise thee; the residue of wrath thou wilt gird upon thee.


The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil; they sank into sleep; all the men of war were unable to use their hands.


Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin.


There are those—how lofty are their eyes, how high their eyelids lift!


The haughty looks of man shall be brought low, and the pride of men shall be humbled; and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.


For the Lord of hosts has a day against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up and high;


On that day the Lord will punish the host of heaven, in heaven, and the kings of the earth, on the earth.


Has he smitten them as he smote those who smote them? Or have they been slain as their slayers were slain?


Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be expiated, and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin: when he makes all the stones of the altars like chalkstones crushed to pieces, no Asherim or incense altars will remain standing.


therefore, behold, I will again do marvelous things with this people, wonderful and marvelous; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hid.”


Woe to you, destroyer, who yourself have not been destroyed; you treacherous one, with whom none has dealt treacherously! When you have ceased to destroy, you will be destroyed; and when you have made an end of dealing treacherously, you will be dealt with treacherously.


“ ‘Whom have you mocked and reviled? Against whom have you raised your voice and haughtily lifted your eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!


Because you have raged against me and your arrogance has come to my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and I will turn you back on the way by which you came.’


Man is bowed down, and men are brought low, and the eyes of the haughty are humbled.


Behold, all you who kindle a fire, who set brands alight! Walk by the light of your fire, and by the brands which you have kindled! This shall you have from my hand: you shall lie down in torment.


their iniquities and their fathers' iniquities together, says the Lord; because they burned incense upon the mountains and reviled me upon the hills, I will measure into their bosom payment for their former doings.”


and all the people will know, Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, who say in pride and in arrogance of heart:


For behold, I begin to work evil at the city which is called by my name, and shall you go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, for I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth, says the Lord of hosts.’


Therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing punishment on the king of Babylon and his land, as I punished the king of Assyria.


The proud one shall stumble and fall, with none to raise him up, and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it will devour all that is round about him.


“Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because it towered high and set its top among the clouds, and its heart was proud of its height,


All this is in order that no trees by the waters may grow to lofty height or set their tops among the clouds, and that no trees that drink water may reach up to them in height; for they are all given over to death, to the nether world among mortal men, with those who go down to the Pit.


And he shall pitch his palatial tents between the sea and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, with none to help him.


Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to abase.


But ships shall come from Kittim and shall afflict Asshur and Eber; and he also shall come to destruction.”


“Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree bad, and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit.


For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, slander.


had I not feared provocation by the enemy, lest their adversaries should judge amiss, lest they should say, “Our hand is triumphant, the Lord has not wrought all this.” ’


For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?
