1 Hear this, O priests! Give heed, O house of Israel! Hearken, O house of the king! For the judgment pertains to you; for you have been a snare at Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor.

For I solemnly warned your fathers when I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, warning them persistently, even to this day, saying, Obey my voice.


Say to the king and the queen mother: “Take a lowly seat, for your beautiful crown has come down from your head.”


“As I live, says the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts, like Tabor among the mountains, and like Carmel by the sea, shall one come.


Thus it shall be done to you, O house of Israel, because of your great wickedness. In the storm the king of Israel shall be utterly cut off.


I will fall upon them like a bear robbed of her cubs, I will tear open their breast, and there I will devour them like a lion, as a wild beast would rend them.


Hear the word of the Lord, O people of Israel; for the Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or kindness, and no knowledge of God in the land;


As robbers lie in wait for a man, so the priests are banded together; they murder on the way to Shechem, yea, they commit villainy.


The prophet is the watchman of Ephraim, the people of my God, yet a fowler's snare is on all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.


Hear this, you aged men, give ear, all inhabitants of the land! Has such a thing happened in your days, or in the days of your fathers?


Hear this word that the Lord has spoken against you, O people of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt:


the high places of Isaac shall be made desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste, and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.”


And I said: Hear, you heads of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel! Is it not for you to know justice?—


Hear this, you heads of the house of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel, who abhor justice and pervert all equity,


The godly man has perished from the earth, and there is none upright among men; they all lie in wait for blood, and each hunts his brother with a net.


“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. You say, ‘How have we despised thy name?’


“And now, O priests, this command is for you.


When Sisera was told that Barak the son of Abino-am had gone up to Mount Tabor,


She sent and summoned Barak the son of Abino-am from Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him, “The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you, ‘Go, gather your men at Mount Tabor, taking ten thousand from the tribe of Naphtali and the tribe of Zebulun.


And he went on a circuit year by year to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all these places.


Then Samuel said, “Gather all Israel at Mizpah, and I will pray to the Lord for you.”


So they gathered at Mizpah, and drew water and poured it out before the Lord, and fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the people of Israel at Mizpah.
