Then Laban said to Jacob, “See this heap and the pillar, which I have set between you and me.


Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and he that vouches for me is on high.


because they have committed folly in Israel, they have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, and they have spoken in my name lying words which I did not command them. I am the one who knows, and I am witness, says the Lord.’ ”


Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the Lord be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act according to all the word with which the Lord your God sends you to us.


And you shall not take a woman as a rival wife to her sister, uncovering her nakedness while her sister is yet alive.


Hear, you peoples, all of you; hearken, O earth, and all that is in it; and let the Lord God be a witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.


You ask, “Why does he not?” Because the Lord was witness to the covenant between you and the wife of your youth, to whom you have been faithless, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.
