When you offer your gifts and sacrifice your sons by fire, you defile yourselves with all your idols to this day. And shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, says the Lord God, I will not be inquired of by you.


“Thus says the Lord God: This also I will let the house of Israel ask me to do for them: to increase their men like a flock.


So they inquired again of the Lord, “Did the man come hither?” and the Lord said, “Behold, he has hidden himself among the baggage.”


Is today the first time that I have inquired of God for him? No! Let not the king impute anything to his servant or to all the house of my father; for your servant has known nothing of all this, much or little.”
