9 When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar, upon the wood.

Then the Lord appeared to Abram, and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.


Thence he removed to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.


So Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron; and there he built an altar to the Lord.


Then Abraham put forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.


Abraham said, “God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.


Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.


And he put the wood in order, and cut the bull in pieces and laid it on the wood. And he said, “Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the burnt offering, and on the wood.”


The Lord is God, and he has given us light. Bind the festal procession with branches, up to the horns of the altar!


and they bound him and led him away and delivered him to Pilate the governor.


And as soon as it was morning the chief priests, with the elders and scribes, and the whole council held a consultation; and they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him to Pilate.


Now the passage of the scripture which he was reading was this: “As a sheep led to the slaughter or a lamb before its shearer is dumb, so he opens not his mouth.


Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed be every one who hangs on a tree” —


And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.


so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.


Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar?


He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
