As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram; and lo, a dread and great darkness fell upon him.


When I think of it I am dismayed, and shuddering seizes my flesh.


Let them be put to shame and confusion altogether who rejoice at my calamity! Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me!


Instead of perfume there will be rottenness; and instead of a girdle, a rope; and instead of well-set hair, baldness; and instead of a rich robe, a girding of sackcloth; instead of beauty, shame.


Let us lie down in our shame, and let our dishonor cover us; for we have sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day; and we have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God.”


“For every head is shaved and every beard cut off; upon all the hands are gashes, and on the loins is sackcloth.
