The talk of a fool is a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise will preserve them.


Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.


Ah, Assyria, the rod of my anger, the staff of my fury!


The watchman says: “Morning comes, and also the night. If you will inquire, inquire; come back again.”


Woe to the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim, and to the fading flower of its glorious beauty, which is on the head of the rich valley of those overcome with wine!


Tell them therefore, ‘Thus says the Lord God: I will put an end to this proverb, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel.’ But say to them, The days are at hand, and the fulfilment of every vision.


And fire has gone out from its stem, has consumed its branches and fruit, so that there remains in it no strong stem, no scepter for a ruler. This is a lamentation, and has become a lamentation.
