I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from guilt.


The former governors who were before me laid heavy burdens upon the people, and took from them food and wine, besides forty shekels of silver. Even their servants lorded it over the people. But I did not do so, because of the fear of God.


who does not put out his money at interest, and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.


“If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor, and you shall not exact interest from him.


He who augments his wealth by interest and increase gathers it for him who is kind to the poor.


learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.


He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, who despises the gain of oppressions, who shakes his hands, lest they hold a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed and shuts his eyes from looking upon evil,


Woe is me, my mother, that you bore me, a man of strife and contention to the whole land! I have not lent, nor have I borrowed, yet all of them curse me.


and you shall know that I am the Lord; for you have not walked in my statutes, nor executed my ordinances, but have acted according to the ordinances of the nations that are round about you.”
