Lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel may go on dry ground through the sea.


And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Amalek; tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.”


And when one told Moses, “Lo, your father-in-law Jethro is coming to you with your wife and her two sons with her,”


She bore a son, and he called his name Gershom; for he said, “I have been a sojourner in a foreign land.”


And you shall take in your hand this rod, with which you shall do the signs.”


The Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A rod.”


And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his rod twice; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their cattle.


At this retort Moses fled, and became an exile in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons.
