“All the king's servants and the people of the king's provinces know that if any man or woman goes to the king inside the inner court without being called, there is but one law; all alike are to be put to death, except the one to whom the king holds out the golden scepter that he may live. And I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days.”


On the third day Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the king's palace, opposite the king's hall. The king was sitting on his royal throne inside the palace opposite the entrance to the palace;


Then his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, “Let a gallows fifty cubits high be made, and in the morning tell the king to have Mordecai hanged upon it; then go merrily with the king to the dinner.” This counsel pleased Haman, and he had the gallows made.


And the king said, “What honor or dignity has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?” The king's servants who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.”


So the king's servants told him, “Haman is there, standing in the court.” And the king said, “Let him come in.”


Then said Harbona, one of the eunuchs in attendance on the king, “Moreover, the gallows which Haman has prepared for Mordecai, whose word saved the king, is standing in Haman's house, fifty cubits high.”


He takes the wise in their own craftiness; and the schemes of the wily are brought to a quick end.


He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord has them in derision.


that he may deliver their soul from death, and keep them alive in famine.


Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.
